Case Study
The Situation
During a growth mode Thermo Fisher Scientific seized the opportunity to take over available space located at 246 Goose Lane, in Guilford.
Problem
The Challenges
1
The challenge involved integrating both the east and west sides of the north quadrant of the building by eliminating the common hallway and removing existing partitions, ceilings, flooring, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems—without compromising the structural integrity or disrupting essential infrastructure.
2
The renovation required significant interior demolition and the installation of specialized systems—such as clean room ceiling pads, a white ceiling grid, and VCT flooring with Thermo Fisher’s signature color block design—all while minimizing disruption to existing workspaces and ensuring that updated spaces like the IT room, chemistry lab, and engineering areas remained functional and up to company standards.
Solution
The Resolutions
1
Munger Construction carried out a strategic demolition and renovation plan that included selective removal and the construction of new spaces like a machine shop, electrical room, IDF room, general open bench/cubical areas, and more. The IT room was expanded into the adjacent machine shop and visually tied together with consistent ceilings, flooring, and finishes, resulting in a modernized and cohesive workspace tailored to Thermo Fisher’s developmental and engineering operations.
2
By coordinating carpentry, metal framing, sheetrocking, sound insulation, and mechanical installations with precision, Munger Construction delivered a seamless renovation process. The incorporation of clean, bright materials—such as white vinyl ceiling tiles and color-blocked VCT flooring—not only enhanced visual appeal but also supported Thermo Fisher’s commitment to innovation, all while ensuring the transformation had minimal impact on daily operations.
