What We Did

Project Overview

For more than four decades, Pat Munger Construction Company, Inc. has partnered with Safe Harbor Marina to construct, renovate, and improve marina facilities throughout Connecticut. Since the 1980s, the relationship has included projects at six major Safe Harbor locations, ranging from new custom-engineered metal buildings and boat storage facilities to renovations, exterior improvements, site work, and ongoing facility maintenance. Through each phase of the relationship, Munger Construction has worked alongside Safe Harbor to support evolving facility needs while helping maintain efficient marina operations along the Connecticut coast.

    Case Study

    The Situation

Safe Harbor Marinas operates waterfront facilities that must support boat storage, maintenance, repair, administrative functions and customer activity. As its Connecticut properties evolved, Safe Harbor needed a construction partner capable of addressing a wide range of facility needs, from new buildings and major renovations to ongoing maintenance and infrastructure improvements. Over more than 40 years, Munger Construction has supported Safe Harbor with projects at multiple Connecticut locations, developing a long-term understanding of its facilities, operations and priorities.

    Problem

    The Challenges

    1

Construction within active marina environments presents challenges that extend beyond the building itself. Work must be coordinated around ongoing operations, site access and existing facilities, while coastal conditions place additional demands on building materials and long-term durability.

    2

At Safe Harbor Mystic, for example, construction required coordinated logistics within a unique island environment while keeping the marina fully operational. At other locations, existing facilities required modernization and repairs designed to extend building life without disrupting day-to-day marina activities.

    3

Because the work has spanned multiple properties and decades, Munger also needed to adapt to changing facility needs while maintaining consistency, responsiveness and familiarity with Safe Harbor's operations.

    Solution

    The Resolutions

    1

Munger Construction approached each Safe Harbor project based on the specific needs of the property while drawing on decades of experience working with the organization.

    2

At Safe Harbor Stratford, Munger completed multiple phases of work to improve functionality, storage and service operations. Current work includes a new custom-engineered metal building, renovations to the existing maintenance shop and site improvements to improve drainage and traffic flow.

    3

At Bruce & Johnson's Brewer Marina, Munger constructed a steel boat storage and repair building, modernized dockmaster and office spaces, and completed siding and roofing improvements designed to provide long-term coastal durability.

    4

At Safe Harbor Ferry Point, work has included roof, siding and trim replacement, interior finish improvements and ongoing maintenance intended to extend building life and improve facility performance.

    5

At Safe Harbor Mystic, Munger completed building and structural upgrades and interior renovations while coordinating construction logistics around continued marina operations.

    Outcome

    the final product

What began as individual construction projects has developed into a relationship spanning more than four decades. Through new construction, renovations, expansions, maintenance and facility improvements, Munger Construction has helped Safe Harbor adapt its Connecticut properties to changing operational needs while improving functionality, durability and long-term facility performance. From Branford to Mystic, the partnership reflects the value of having a construction team that understands not only the buildings, but also the client's operations and long-term goals.
