Burt Process Equipment, Inc., a renowned leader in fluid handling systems, needed to expand its manufacturing capacity to keep pace with increasing customer demand. Their existing facility at 100 Overlook Drive in Hamden, CT, required a large addition that would accommodate growing production needs, modern office space, and additional storage. It was crucial for the expanded facility to reflect the company’s innovative spirit while seamlessly integrating with the original building.

Challenge

The primary challenge was to design a 26,300 SF addition that would blend manufacturing, office, and storage space into a cohesive and visually appealing structure. Burt Process required a solution that could incorporate a decorative masonry and stucco facade while making extensive use of glass to create an inviting and modern look. Additionally, the interior needed to provide a productive workspace for manufacturing while also featuring a welcoming office environment with high-end finishes such as a custom staircase and maple millwork.

Coordinating construction without disrupting ongoing operations in the existing facility added another layer of complexity, demanding strategic planning and execution.

Solution

Munger Construction employed the Varco-Pruden pre-engineered building system to deliver a flexible and efficient solution for Burt Process. The 13,000 SF production and manufacturing space was designed to increase efficiency and accommodate advanced equipment, while the 9,700 SF office area was tailored to foster collaboration and comfort for employees.

The building’s exterior was thoughtfully designed to match the company’s professional image. Extensive glass windows were incorporated to maximize natural light, creating a bright and open atmosphere inside. The decorative masonry and stucco facade added aesthetic appeal, while the custom interior finishes—such as a striking maple staircase—reflected Burt Process’s attention to detail and commitment to quality.
