    Case Study

    The Situation

The first large scale Solar PV project generating clean, renewable energy under Connecticut’s new Zero emission Renewable Energy Credit (ZREC) program was completed and operational on December 12, 2012 at the Safety-Zone Inc. in Guilford.

    Outcome

    the final product

The system will generate approximately 345,000 kW hours annually, generating the majority of its electric needs thus saving the Safety Zone substantial electric utility costs. Additional “green environmental” benefits include saving our environment and the air we breathe by eliminating 243 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually by generating clean energy from the Sun! The Safety Zone will take advantage of Connecticut’s generous clean energy incentives resulting from the 2011 energy reform legislation (PA-11-80) which created annual offerings of ZREC incentives passed through its electric utility company, CL&P. These incentives provide financial assistance to the owners of Renewable Energy Systems with stabile, fixed income benefits for fifteen years. We are proud to report this “Made-in-America” 300kW solar PV energy system is quiet and visually unobtrusive with 1,248 roof-mounted solar panels. The PV Panels were manufactured in Oregon, the Inverter was manufactured in Massachusetts, and the Racking was manufactured in Wisconsin and made from 100% recycled and recyclable material.
